Homemade Tomato Sauce

Five hours.

That is all that stands between me and my future. Okay, no. That’s dramatic. But I only have five more hours at Zack’s Yogurt. Zack’s was my first (and only – thus far -) job. I applied on a napkin, have a very distinct memory of being in the car with my high school boyfriend and saying “Should I call and check on it? Or let them call me?” Because I hadn’t heard anything in over a week and wanted it so badly.

And here we are, four years later. I finally got a key about 3 weeks ago and have made countless flavors, flipped a myriad of tubes, counted thousands of dollar bills, swept and mopped the floor way too many times, and made some of the best friends of my life.

But today, folks, is my last day. I work from 5-10pm and then never again. Unless I fail this last semester of college and no graduate schools want me and I end up managing a yogurt shop… But let’s hope I can pull through.

Homemade Tomato Sauce
Adapted slightly from Skinny Taste


1 tsp olive oil
2-3 cloves garlic, minced
3-4 medium sized tomatoes, chopped
1/8 c fresh parsley, chopped
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1/2 tsp black pepper

1. Add oil to saute pan. Cook garlic on medium heat heat.
2. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer covered for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
